Victorville Non-Motorized Transportation Plan

This project assisted in creating a Non-motorized Transportation Plan for the City of Victorville to provide connectivity for residents and visitors to public facilities.

Goals

• Improve bicycling and walking safety
• Develop a recommended bikeway/pedestrian network
• Provide end of trip facilities such as bicycle parking and lockers
• Improve bicycle-transit link
• Promote alternative transportation methods through education and encouragement

The 2030 General Plan Circulation Element identifies the need for the City of Victorville to facilitate the use of alternative modes of travel to aid in successfully implementing a Circulation Plan that will move traffic in and through the City efficiently, with minimal congestion. This, in combination with other land use and transportation strategies identified in the General Plan, will help reduce total vehicle miles traveled, thereby reducing total vehicular exhaust emissions. These benefits are directly correlated with goals, policies and objectives relating to air quality.  The City began working on developing a pedestrian trail/path and bikeway system in an effort to expand on the on-going Mojave Riverwalk Trail project, the City’s first standalone multiuse trail project.

Results

• Expenditures of approximately $1.4 million for short-term bicycle projects; $3.5 million for medium-term projects; and $66.3 million for long-term projects
• Design guidelines for class I, II, and III bike routes
• Combination of bike racks for occasional users and higher security parking for every day users at all existing and proposed multimodal facilities within the City
• Safety education programs, safety events/fairs, and educational campaigns
