Inland Empire ULI Visioning Workshop

The Western Riverside Council of Governments, the Urban Land Institute and Compass Blueprint held a visioning workshop and Inland Empire residents came together to share a vision of future growth.

Goals

• Understand resident's vision for future land-use in the region using the Compass Blueprint 2% strategy
• Involve ULI participant in the process
• Use current housing trends to forecast future choices
• Form a region-wide growth management framework

The Inland Empire is the fastest area in the Southern California region. The Workshop was focused on land-use and different development types. Participants were able to lay desired new development, agriculture or open space on a map of the region. Compass Blueprint compiled the information using mapping software in way that could be easily analyzed.

Results

• A composite of Workshop participants choices showed people using 10% less land for new development than growth projections
  
• Participants opted for an interconnected regional transit system, connecting the Inland Empire with other regional destinations such as Los Angeles
• Higher density, new employment, and new development was chosen by participents over the current projections
