Did you know that the state is planning to offer tools and funding to cities and counties to plan more sustainable communities that reduce both vehicle travel and greenhouse gas emissions? This webinar will inform participants about some of those resources, and help guide further development of resources cities and counties need to successfully implement sustainable community planning.

This webinar includes:
• An overview by Julia Lave Johnston, Planning and Policy Director of the Governor's Office of Planning and Research of how the California Strategic Growth Council can assist local agencies in sustainable community planning, including accessing the planning grants available through funding from Proposition 84.
• Perspectives from an expert panel of local officials on how local planning fits into the process of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation.
• The opportunity to participate in a key discussion about what resources and tools the state can provide to support promising approaches to local planning to reduce greenhouse gases, and information about how to continue this discussion after conclusion of the webinar.

The Institute for Local Government, the non-profit research and education affiliate of the League of California Cities and the California State Association of Counties, is pleased to present this webinar in collaboration with the California Strategic Growth Council.

This webinar is the first in a series of events offered by the Institute for Local Government to foster dialogue among local officials and to provide guidance to state agencies on local perspectives related to sustainable community planning at the local level.

Future events currently in development for this series include an online discussion forum and additional webinars on related topics. More information will be provided as it becomes available.

We hope you will join us for this important online dialogue among state, regional and local officials. If you have any questions, please contact Ken Loman at the Institute for Local Government at kloman@ca-ilg.org or 916-658-8208.
