Too much or too little parking in El Centro?
A common perception in downtown El Centro today is there is a lack of parking. But is that a real issue or just perceived? That's what a parking study underway will determine. As part of the El Centro Demonstration Project, the project teams counted all parking spaces in the downtown area, estimated existing and future parking demand, and are now interpreting the results. Findings will be presented to the city council in June. The parking study will consider shared parking strategies, such as establishing common spaces used during the day by office buildings and at night by restaurants or uses. The city will also consider the establishment of a parking district. Ultimately, the city will adopt recommended parking strategies as part of Project Shape to make more efficient use of current and future facilities.
