New street configuration ideas for Sunset Junction

May 15, 2008 - 11:52 am

Stakeholder groups will be gathering in mid June to consider street cross section ideas and treatments for the area known as Sunset Junction. The Department of Transportation, Metro, City of Los Angeles Planning Department, citizen groups, and Councilmen Garcetti's office will participate in a design charrette to consider fresh approaches to improve the livability and walkability of this heavily traveled area. The goal of the Sunset Junction Demonstration Project is to make the intersections of Santa Monica Boulevard, Sunset, and Vermont safer for motorists, more inviting to bicyclists and pedestrians, and more accessible to transit riders. Stay tuned for a public workshop this summer to consider various street configurations based on the ideas generated at the charrette.
